When you are buying beads, the hole is extremely important ! Many beads are sold by weight, thus a large hole may affect the total gram price. I believe this is why so many manufacturers of stone beads make such small holes. It is also worth noting that a tiny drill bit penetrates a stone faster and easier than a larger drill bit, and "BEAD QUALITY" stone is often inferior to all other grades of stone material, and will not hold up under the increased vibration of a larger hole. All of these factors play a role in the size of the hole. On the other hand, good material allows for clean and open holes of 1.5mm or larger which are a joy to work with.
