Framing for an Exhibition

James A. Miller, Certified Picture Framer

"Framing for exhibition usually means framing for sale. Even if sales do not
take place at an exhibition, artists enjoy
the promotional value of public display
both in recognition of their works and
in sales that come later." [continue]

Design Considerations

James A. Miller, Certified Picture Framer

"While picture framing is related to art, the two should not be confused. Art is subjective, expressive, with emphasis on originality. Framing, on the other hand, is mostly technical. Matting Your Photos
By Angie Felix
MYTH: Non-glare glass stops fading.
Non-glare glass has no more preservation qualities than ordinary glass. Fading is caused by ultraviolet (UV) rays common to sunlight, fluorescent light, and some other light sources. Regular mat or Conservation quality: Conservation quality will cost more than twice as much. Use it when your image
is an original, a limited edition, or any highly valued product. Regular mat keeps your cost to a minimum and is the product normally used for product which does
not have a high monetary value.

You Can Do It Yourself Picture Frame Contents
"The person who does the picture framing, whether it's a professional custom picture framer or a do it yourself at home custom framer, is known as the other artist.

The picture frame components, liner, fillet, mat or a frame by itself at some times will contain and at other times will continue the art work that it holds, but at all times will complete and enhance the art work." [go to article]

28 Tips for Hanging Art

ideas for hanging artwork

Hanging artwork baffles many home decorators. How high should a picture be hung on the wall, what color should the matting be, and how can you decide what goes where?

EyeofStorm
"Works on paper, photography and textiles are particularly vulnerable to light's adverse effects (UV rays). Too much direct light can lead to changes in print texture and discoloration, so it is important to strike a balance between the benefits of light for viewing your artwork and its potential dangers.
